Ventura Site Information

In order to begin meeting a federal court order to bring California’s prison healthcare system up to constitutional standards, a remedial plan was agreed upon to begin construction of seven new facilities.

These facilities will be located throughout California. Two sites have already been agreed upon – in Stockton and San Diego.

It was decided that existing state land be used for these facilities. This saves taxpayer dollars and crucial time. Also, the new facilities must be located near urban areas so staffing needs can be met – a crucial component to address the federal courts’ rulings.

Below are a number of documents that will help you understand the path the Receiver’s office followed in making the decision to remove the Ventura County Youth Correctional Facility and build a much-needed healthcare facility. Note: Adobe Reader is required to view the following documents.
